Justinian stood grimly before the amassed fiendish army. Here on the Outlands, he knew he was more likely to encounter the evil creatures. The planetar did not, however, expect such numbers.

Still, Justinian knew what must be done and he did not hesitate. The angel raised his hands to the sky and began singing a hymn. His voice reverberated as he invoked the Upper Planes' holy power.

At the planetar's call, the storm clouds rushed in immediately. Thunder rumbled ominously, and the fiends below looked up in shock and horror, for the sky quaked with righteous authority. Lightning coursed through the clouds like a thousand divine, glowing serpents. Justinian spread his wings and raised his voice to greater volume, matching the gathering storm.

The rain began falling in torrents, masses of holy water that poured down upon the hapless demons. The foul creatures screamed in agony, an abyssal cacophony filled with pain and fury. They cursed and swore at the angel, promised death and worse. And then the lightning struck earth. The screams ended quickly, and soon the gentle rumbling of receding thunder and the soft trickle of pleasant rainfall were the only sounds that remained. Justinian slowly lowered his arms.

The planetar quietly turned away from the remains. The holy rain would dissolve what was left of the fiends and leave the ground pure again. He never found comfort in causing such destruction, even to defeat evil, but he accepted that his actions were necessary. He pitied the souls that became fiends. That even the strong among them knew only torment and fear always weighed heavily on Justinian's heart.

Perhaps, he thought, one day he would find a fiend willing to accept salvation. The planetar held onto that thought, confident that one day he would help redeem the lost...

Vectored in Illustrator. I'll have the magic circle up for stock use tomorrow, probably. I'm also slowly working on a magic circle tutorial using that circle, so keep an eye out.

This image will be a part of the Planescape Campaign Setting books, along with a few of my other characters and pictures. I might add a few small edits to this over the next little while, but we'll see how things go!

When it comes to those Circles, I'll be taking a different appraoc. but what you have here is nothing short of impressive. the Angle of the Circle is just right, fitting well above the hands. One thing i'm curious about: what exactly do you use as filler (in terms of the symbols that make up around the circle)?

shadework through Vector Graphics is most impressive. that's not easy for sure. was all this drawn via Vector graphics? (I assume you hand draw it first, scan it, and use it as a tablet).
Either case, you are incredible through this form of medium.

Thank you!

I used some Enochian script and made a brush out of it, then applied the brush to a path. Illustrator works really well with path-directed pattern brushes.

I do hand drawing first, yeah, then I do inking and coloring in Illustrator. It's pretty easy, actually :) If you learn some cel-shading techniques, it's quite efficient to work in Illustrator. The colors are sharper and clearer and more vivid overall.

But thank you!
